I designed my blog header. So now, I'm going to share with you on how I design it.
First, open your Photoshop. Don't have? Go to buy and install!
Next, go to File>New, set your image size. My suggestion is width: 1400 pixels, height: 300 pixels.
Then, Layer>New Fill Layer>Gradient, choose radial gradient and set to red and black. You will get the below image. Try to make the red part wider so that the final result looks great. Name the gradient layer as GRADIENT 1.
So, open a new layer, make sure your background color is white and foreground color is black, then go to Filter>Render>Clouds. Name the layer as CLOUD 1. Set the opacity to 30%. Copy the layer several times, same concept, to amplify the result.
Now, open a new layer again. Name it as STARS. Choose brush to create some starry effects. Brush size of 3px, 5px, 8px and 11 px are recommended. Make sure you choose the brush that is blur at the side. For the middle part, I used a special brush which you need to download from websites (DeviantArt). Double click STARS layer. The Layer Style window come out. Do as shown:
After the setting, you'll get this:
Open a new layer again, name it as COLOUR. Hide all layers. Choose brush tool and set the brush size to about 500 px. Choose blue colour and purple colour. Paint on that layer. Make all layers visible, and see whether you're satisfy with the result or not. Add or remove if you're not satisfy with it. You can also choose some other colour such as pink, green, etc. Better don't use fire colour because the background is already red.

Next, use text tool and type whatever you like. Change to a suitable font, my font is Champagne & Limousines. Double click the text layer and set the settings as same as STARS layer but the Color Overlay part is a bit changed to the following.

For the final touch, open a new layer and select brush tool. Color code of #f4e3bd is recommended. Paint on a spot which near to the centre but not too close.
